Window Cleaners Set Agenda for a Safer Industry

Local 26 Window Cleaners won signfiicant safety improvements in their contract victory last April, and among those changes was the formation of a joint Safety Commitee with the companies to explore how we can make the window cleaning industry safer in the Twin Cities.

Over the summer, our member safety commitee met several times to discuss union members' top safety priorities, and we will work jointly with the companies to develop them. Some of our union's goals include:

  • Ensuring that all buildings have proper tiebacks for rope work or other equipment to allow for safe cleaning
  • State licensure for the window cleaning industry to ensure that all all window cleaning work meets minimum safety standards
  • A Training and Upgrade Fund to provide comprehensive new hire training as well as all required training for new hires to become Journeymen

The union representatives on the Safety Commitee are Eric Salminen of MSI and Aaron Nunn of Columbia. For more information, contact Todd Dahlstrom at 612-331-8336.
