Janitors Contract Convention 1

Local 26 Janitors News

  • Janitors Win Arbitration over Healthcare
    2/5/2008
Last Year janitors stood together to win affordable healthcare for ourselves and our families. ABM tried to make a profit by giving us WORSE health insurance! Now an Arbitrator has ruled that ABM violated our union contract when it offered a health insurance plan that was not equal to the union plan. This is a huge victory towards improving our health insurance and forcing the companies to live up to what they agreed to last year.

  • Janitors Win in Ohio!
    10/31/2007
“Thank You Local 26!” said the janitors in Cincinnati after they won their first-ever union contract with the help of janitors from the Twin Cities. Over the last 9 months, 11 janitors and staff from our Local have flown to cities in Ohio and Indiana to help organize non-union janitors (who used to make just $8.00 per hour with no health insurance) and give them hope that they could fight and win against big companies like ABM and Marsden.  As janitors in cities across the country win union contracts, it helps protect what we have won in the Twin Cities, and sets the stage for us to win even more in our next contract in 2009!

  • Breck Custodians Win New Contract!
    10/18/2007
On Thursday, October 18, the custodians at Breck School reached a tentative agreement on a new contract more than three months after their last contract expired.
  • Security Officers, Window Cleaners, and Janitors Launch Joint Organizing Campaign
    5/14/2007
For the first time in our history, we are organizing in every part of our union at the same time to unite our strength. No longer can we afford to think of our union as separate pieces: janitors, security officers, and window cleraners. We all work in the same industry of Property Services.
    One Industry. One Union.
  • Don’t We All Deserve A Chance at the American Dream?

    To the President and Congress:

The Employee Free Choice Act would create a fair playing field that allows all workers the freedom to form unions so we can create good jobs, win health care for all, and provide the services our communities need. Creating good jobs today will make it possible for our kids to achieve the American Dream tomorrow. I urge you to stand with workers and pass the Employee Free Choice Act.
