Breck Custodians Win New Contract!
On Thursday, October 18, the custodians at Breck School reached a tentative agreement on a new contract more than three months after their last contract expired.
Breck School has students from some of the richest families in the Twin Cities, but Breck Janitors pay about $300 per month for family Health insurance! So this fall, Breck workers stood up, and for the first time in memory, they passed out flyers, wore stickers and picketed in front of the school. As a result of their action, the Janitors won a contract that includes basic union rights, as much as $.65 raises, and more than $1,000 per month from the employer for Family Health insurance. The next time they bargain, it will be at the same time as the teachers, so look out Breck!
