Son of Local 26 Member Wins SEIU Scholarship
Ulises Ayala Beltran
"To everyone who has helped me achieve my dream of going to college — especially the SEIU Jesse Jackson Scholarship, the Walling Foundation, and Augsburg College — THANK YOU so much!"
Every year, SEIU awards numerous scholarships to members and their children so they can further their education in ways that may not have otherwise been possible.
This year, the SEIU Jesse Jackson Scholarship was awarded to the son of Local 26 member Sabrina Beltran, Ulises Ayala Beltrán.
Ulises was born in Morelos, México, moved to Saint Paul in 2001, and attended Battle Creek Middle School and Arlington High School, where he played tennis and graduated with Honors.
In 2006, Ulises took part in a program with America Votes to contact Latinos and encourage them to get out and vote. And last summer, he worked with a group called NAVIGATE, preparing materials and information to help immigrant students achieve a higher education.
Ulises started college at Augsburg College in Minneapolis last fall, and is currently a sophomore majoring in Accounting with a minor in French.
Congratulations to Ulises and all the other SEIU Scholarship winners!
