Hannon Security Denounced by Community, Contracts Terminated
Congressman Ellison, Faith and Community Leaders Hear Testimony on Racial Discrimination at Security Firm
More than 100 people gathered on
Saturday, December 8, to voice their outrage over Hannon Security Service’s
alleged racial discrimination and anti-union activities and to hear testimony
from current and former Hannon employees.
Rev. Scott Stapleton, senior pastor
of Grace-Trinity
Community Church announced that his congregation will no longer contract with Hannon
Security because of their troubling record as an
employer.
Stapelton’s sentiments were echoed
by the Minnesota Council of Churches. Executive Director Rev. Peg Chamberlain
released a statement of concern about Hannon’s practices and announced the MCC
would investigate and review their contracts with the
firm.
The forum, cosponsored by Workers
Interfaith Network and SEIU Local 26, included Congressman Keith Ellison; Catholic Charities CEO Fr. John Estrem;
religious and community leaders; community allies; and security
officers.
