Elections will be held Saturday, March 14th, 2015.
The Union Election Committee met to review the past practice for union elections and discuss modifications as needed.
The following procedure for nominations has been adopted:
The election committee will not provide a nominating petition form. Candidates may submit their nominations in person, or by mail if postmarked by February 1, 2015. Nomination petitions must be legible and include:
- Candidates’ name
- Candidates’ office / position running for (President, Secretary Treasurer, delegate (janitorial, security, in-house, or retiree)
- Number of signatures required for nomination of office per the Local 26 bylaws (Officers- 50 signatures; Delegates- 10 signatures)
- No person shall be eligible for nomination as an officer, member of the Executive Board, delegate or any other office in this Local Union who has not been a member in continuous good standing for at least two (2) years immediately preceding the nomination
Nominations must be received by Monday, February 2, 2015. Upon review and validation by the Election Committee, candidates will be notified of election procedures by the Election Committee Chair.
Nominations for the offices of President, Secretary-Treasurer, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and Executive Board delegates by division (7 janitorial, 2 security, 1 window cleaning, 1 in-house contracts) are open. The term of the office will run for three years beginning as of April 11, 2015. Persons running for one of the four officer positions must submit a nominating petition with the nominees’ name and fifty (50) signatures of members in good standing. Persons running for delegates must be nominated by ten (10) members in good standing.
Eligibility: SEIU Local 26 Constitution and Bylaws defines eligibility as follows:
SECTION 11.1 No person shall be eligible for nomination as an officer, member of the Executive Board, delegate or any other office in this Local Union who has not been a member in continuous good standing for at least two (2) years immediately preceding the nominations and has during all of that time paid the full dues required for Regular Members of the Local Union within each month when due. The International President may waive this provision in his/her discretion based on good cause shown. Any such waiver shall be uniformly and equitably applied. No member convicted of a felony as defined in Section 504 of the Landrum-Griffin Act shall be eligible to hold office in this Local Union.

The vote will be by secret ballot. Proxy voting, mail ballots, and write-in candidates not permitted. Members will elect delegates for the division to which they belong. Any member who has paid dues through February 28th, 2015 will be eligible to vote. Members may be asked present a Local 26 membership card, check stub, or other form of identification at the polls.
